Side by side
Snap-In Dentures vs All-on-4
Both use implants to stop a full arch of teeth moving. One comes out at night and one does not, and that difference drives most of the rest.
Snap-In Implant Denture vs All-on-4 Fixed Bridge
| Snap-In Implant Denture | All-on-4 Fixed Bridge | |
|---|---|---|
| Implants per arch | Usually two on a lower, four on an upper | Four |
| Removable | Yes, for cleaning and at night | No, only the dentist removes it |
| Covers the palate on an upper | Often | No |
| Chewing | A large improvement on a conventional denture | Closest to natural teeth |
| Can use an existing denture | Sometimes | No |
| Upfront cost | Considerably lower | Higher |
| Maintenance | Attachment inserts replaced about yearly | Professional cleaning with the bridge removed periodically |
| Best for | Denture wearers who want stability at a moderate cost | Patients who want teeth that never come out |
Our take
If your denture moves and you mainly want it to stay put, two implants and a snap-in denture is one of the best value treatments in dentistry. If you want to stop thinking of your teeth as something you take out, All-on-4 is the answer. We will show you both plans on your scan.
Implant-Supported Dentures
An implant-supported denture clips onto two or more implants, so it stops moving when you eat and talk. It is the middle path between a conventional denture and a fixed full arch.
Consider it if:
- A lower denture that moves, rubs or needs adhesive
- Missing all the teeth in an arch
- Wanting implant stability without the cost of a fixed full arch
All-on-4 Dental Implants
A full arch of fixed teeth, anchored on four implants and placed in a single day. It is for people who have lost most of an arch, or are being told they are about to, and who do not want a denture that comes out at night.
Consider it if:
- You are missing most or all of the teeth in an arch
- Your current denture moves, rubs, or needs adhesive to stay put
- You have been told there is not enough bone for conventional implants
Dentures
A well-made denture restores chewing and the shape of the lower face. A poorly made one is the reason people give up on dentures altogether.
Consider it if:
- You are missing all the teeth in an arch
- You are missing several teeth and want one appliance to replace them
- Your current denture is loose, sore, or needs adhesive daily
How we help you decide
We take records, show you what we are looking at on screen, and give you a recommendation with the reasoning attached. Both options above get quoted where both are clinically reasonable, so you are comparing real numbers for your own mouth rather than averages from an article.
If one of them is clearly wrong for your situation, we will say so and explain why. Second opinions are welcome, and we give them straight.
Questions we get asked
What is the difference between snap-in dentures and All-on-4?
Snap-in dentures clip onto implants and come out for cleaning. An All-on-4 bridge is screwed to the implants and stays in. The snap-in option needs fewer implants and costs less.
Can my current denture be converted?
Often, if it fits well and is in good condition. We assess it at the consultation.
Do I leave with teeth the same day?
Yes. A fixed provisional bridge goes on at the surgery appointment. It is not the final restoration, and it looks and functions like teeth while you heal.
Is All-on-4 the same as a snap-in denture?
No. A snap-in overdenture clips onto implants and you remove it to clean. An All-on-4 bridge is screwed down and stays in your mouth.
Will people be able to tell?
A denture designed for your face rather than a stock mold reads as natural. Tooth shape, shade and how much shows when you smile are all choices we make with you at the try-in.
How long until I can eat normally?
Give it a few weeks. Start soft, cut food small, chew on both sides. Lower full dentures take the longest to adapt to.
